Date: Sun, 18 Feb 1996 From: KLowe@ida.org (Kristopher Karl Lowe) revised 6:57 AM on 2/4/97 Dear Mr Barker, I am a Vietnam veteran of the 31st Infantry but am an active member of the regimental association in which roughly 2/3 are Korean War vets. We have two upcoming events that may be of interest. The first is reactivation of the 31st Infantry at Ft Drum (Watertown, NY) on 12 April as part of the 10th Mountain Division. The second is our annual reunion scheduled for 28 June through 1 July at the Rosslyn Westpark Hotel in Arlington, VA, just across the potomac from Washington, DC. We publish a newsletter three times a year in which we have a "From the Past" column spanning the regiment's history all the way back to 1916. Another column is "Looking Back", a personal history submitted by members of the association. We have roughly 500 active members including veterans of the Siberian campaign of 1919-1920, Shanghai campaign of 1932, Bataan campaign of 1941-42, Korean War, and Vietnam War. The last active unit of the regiment was inactivated at Ft Sill, OK in July 1995, but is soon to be reactivated at Ft Drum, as indicated above. If he was later with Capt. George Cody I am wondering if that would have put him in the 3rd Battlion of the 31st Infantry. I got some information that Cody was in command of a unit of 12 4.2 mortars. Ted, as I wrote in the 1st E-Mail my Uncle Bobby remained a loner big time when he returned to the States after the war. My uncle Jim tells me today that Bobby had changed in a deep way that we were never able to reach. He would never talk about Korea. In my life we only had one conversation about the war, and Bobbysaid all he had to do was close his eyes, and he could see it all. I love my Uncle Bob very much, and miss today. He quietly kept the war to himself until the day he died. I the family to have a chance to know what my Uncle went through. This is the reason I am reaching out to the Korean Vets on the Web. I am looking in the off chance that someone knew Bob and served with him. Sincerely, Dennis Flynn P.S. I am also a Vet myself. I enlisted in the Navy during the War in Viet Nam.
